"Seeing, in the finest and broadest sense, means using your senses, your intellect, and your emotions. It means encountering your subject matter with your whole being. It means looking beyond the labels of things and discovering the remarkable world around you."

On-the-Road Workshops

A Natural Eye: Big Sur
May31-June 3
Led by Eddie Soloway
Eddie Soloway takes his popular “Natural Eye” workshop
on the road! Big Sur, south of Carmel, California, is a region
of rugged natural beauty well known to the likes of Ansel Adams,
Edward Weston, and generations of nature and photography lovers,
a place where mountain streams cascade through redwood groves
on their way to wild beaches and glorious sunset light. Eddie
weaves together some of the elements of his Santa Fe–based workshop, including
activities designed to open up a natural eye and fine-tuning
technical ideas that help you capture what you see on film
or pixels. Indoor and outdoor sessions include ample time to
photograph the beautiful surroundings.
For further details, visit
the Web site. To register for this workshop,
call the Santa Fe Workshops at (505) 983-1400.

Western Ireland: A Photographic and Cultural Workshop in County Mayo and the Donegal Peninsula
July 27-August 6
Led by John Weiss
Western Ireland is a land of remarkable light, rugged natural
beauty, and warm people eager to share their rich heritage
of music, folklore, literature, and history. Days are
spent photographing in one or two spots – uniquely
special places you could never find on your own. This year,
we’ve added a number of exciting excursions to our
workshop. We hope to visit the Ballinrobe Horserace; photographing
the Pilgrimage at Croagh Patrick, and two days on the Donegal
Peninsula. We might also spend an entire day “shooting
and shopping” in nearby Westport, Ireland’s only
planned city and a visual delight. Join us on this special
excursion to Western Ireland and the Donegal Peninsula.
For complete information and to register, please contact Strabo
International Tour Company at 607-756-8676, or call John Weiss
at (410) 392-2929. Please
mention that you heard about this opportunity through the
Santa Fe Workshops e-Newsletter.

Most Widely Read Travel Magazine” distinction. Come to understand the mindset
and strategies behind stories that get inside — and communicate — the
heart of a place. Learn how story telling — and not guidebook journalism — captures
the attention of readers. Find out what it takes to make good on Traveler’s
commitment to tell the stories of “destinations of distinction and character” and
the belief that “to enhance an authentic ‘sense of place’ will
benefit both travelers and the locations they visit.”
